The yoga diet is one of the oldest diets on the planet. Although yoga is most often celebrated as a pillar of twenty-first century fitness, it is actually a 5,000-year-old comprehensive philosophical discipline that includes healthy eating guidelines. The yoga diet has an ancient lineage dating back to the Vedas, sacred yoga scriptures (2500 B.C.E.), the Yoga Sutras (2 B.C.E.), written by the great yoga master, Patanjali, and the Bhagavad Gita (1 B.C.E.), a classic Hindu text. Yoga’s holistic approach to healthy and delicious eating is just as important and relevant today - to purify, strengthen, and nourish our body, mind and spirit.

The yoga diet is based on the yogic principles of purity (sattva), nonviolence (ahimsa), and balanced living. Originally, yoga was practiced as a path to spiritual enlightenment. The ultimate purpose of the yoga diet has always been to reach a higher consciousness and attain enlightenment through eating pure (sattvic) foods. Yoga philosophy teaches that the body\'s life-force energy - its prana - comes from air, water, and food. Eating pure, organic yogic foods increases our prana.

Following a yoga diet helps you cultivate a magnificent body, mind, and spirit. Including pure yogic foods in the diet can help increase life expectancy and lower the risk of heart disease, cancer, obesity, diabetes, hormonal imbalances, and many other chronic diseases that affect millions of people globally.

As featured in Elaine Gavalas' book, Yogi in the Kitchen, this 3-part yoga download offers a complete guide to the yoga diet, pure yogic foods, yoga-inspired recipes and meals, mindful eating, and asanas for digestion.
