In this interview with Yoga U's Eva Norlyk Smith, longtime Iyengar Yoga teacher Judith Hanson Lasater, shares her views on the challenges facing yoga teachers today. Judith addresses the need to raise the training level of yoga teachers to meet the demands of the increasing number of beginners flocking to yoga classes today.  Judith notes why yoga classes should never  be one-size-fits-all instruction, and how the needs of everyone in a class needs to be addressed and taught according to their level of experience.
In addition to giving people an experience of a yoga practice, Judith notes, it’s very important that classes teach people how to practice so they are aware of basic safety ideas, including how to sequence poses, the speed with which to go, how to use the breath, and how to be aware of any signs that their body’s giving them about doing less. All of this have significant implications for yoga teaching as a profession, Judith notes. Is the changing times challenging us to upgrade yoga teaching standards?
