Judith Hanson Lasater Keys to Effective Yoga Teaching: The Most Important Takeaways from a Life of Teaching

TEACHER ED
Nov 01 & 01

Join us for an exciting new course with renowned author and yoga teacher Judith Hanson Lasater in which she will share some of the most important takeaways from her more than fifty years of teaching yoga!

Yoga is not a work-out, it’s a work-in, says Judith. Yoga invits us to a transformative journey into the deeper aspects of our own, inner nature.

As a result, teaching yoga is far more challenging than teaching e.g. a fitness class. In fact, it’s a miracle we can teach at all, notes Judith, because communicating the deeper aspects of yoga effectively carries many challenges.

We’re not just looking to take students through a series of poses, but hopefully help give them an experience of the deeper aspects of their own inner nature, which yoga can help us reconnect to.

Most people think of yoga as a way to exercise or deal with stress. Giving people an invitation to see the deeper aspects of practice is a great way to build community, and give students a vision of the potential of yoga beyond just practicing poses.

We need to get bigger in our understanding of human nature, what it is to learn, what it is to teach. Sometimes teachers don’t have confidence that they do know something, Judith notes.

But don’t be afraid to share your real voice. You have to believe what you’re saying. When there is a congruence between what you say and what you believe, there is greater power. People feel that integration.

Judith will then share some of the most important lessons she has learned teaching yoga to many diverse audiences in all parts of the world.

What You Will Learn

  • The power of speaking from your authentic self;
  • What it means to both be aware of what you say, and how you say it.
  • The role of observation
  • Connecting with the energy in the room – are the students really hearing what you say? And if not, what can you do about it?

The practice of yoga is fundamentally an act of kindness toward oneself. This idea is often forgotten, but not by Judith, whose approach is warm, non-judgmental and responsive to individual differences and needs.

I wanted to expand on my thank you. Yoga U Online has been an absolute lifesaver for me. I moved from a yoga mecca to a yoga desert. Instead of having my choice of teachers and styles and special workshops, I now have to travel an hour to take a class. The excellent teachers and interesting topics at Yoga U Online have kept me moving ahead in my practice. I am grateful for all the wonderful yoga you bring to me. Thank you.
