The Empowered Cancer Survivor: How Yoga Can Help Guide Your Journey

Cancer touches the lives of all of us. In the US and UK, 1 in 2 women and men will develop cancer at some point in their lives, according to the British Journal of Cancer.

Even if we are lucky enough not to contract cancer ourselves, we all have close relatives and friends who will be affected by the disease.

The good news is that as cancer treatment improves, more people are living longer despite a cancer diagnosis.

Unfortunately, that also means that they will live longer with the side effects of cancer treatment and the constant threat of a recurrence.

Support for those living with side effects from cancer is often poor or non-existent, says UK-based yoga for cancer expert Vicky Fox.

However, there is growing research evidence that practicing yoga can have a considerable positive impact on those living with cancer.

But how? While yoga can be an incredibly empowering tool for cancer survivors, there are numerous additional considerations that come into play when practicing yoga after cancer.

In this online course, Yoga and Cancer specialist Vicky Fox, author of Yoga for Cancer: The A to Z of C, will show how yoga can help mitigate the side effects of cancer diagnosis and treatment to help empower anyone diagnosed with cancer to cope better with the symptoms and lingering side effects of treatment.

What you will learn

  • Overview of cancer terminology, diagnosis, and treatment: Understanding stress, fear, and anxiety, the impact of living with cancer, and how to start creating a toolbox of poses and adjustments to help with the side effects of treatment and diagnosis.
  • Balancing Safety and Side Effects: How can you create a safe practice and a supportive and healing environment where people can practice? Addressing the most common side effects and what we have in our yoga toolbox that can support those impacted.
  • Recorded yoga for cancer practice, this class is suitable for anyone living with cancer. Will address the lymphatic system and how yoga can boost the immune system.

This Course Also Includes:

  • Yoga Practice Video:  Enjoy a yoga practice that Vicky has created for this course.
  • Recordings of All Sessions: It’s generally acknowledged that many people only retain 10-20 percent of what they learn in a workshop. You will get access to the recordings of all webinar sessions – both MP3 (downloadable) and MP4 (streaming online), enabling you to go back and listen to the workshop as many times as you like.
  • Transcripts of All Sessions: Ever wanted to refer to a particular part of a course? Even the best note-takers miss a point every so often. With the webinar session transcripts, you can refer to particularly important passages or clarify sections you doubted.

“I have just completed the online training and wanted to extend my thanks to you for such clear and informative delivery.  I did become rather emotional when you reached the yoga section of the first video.  Mainly because you clearly articulate how I have felt during and after my treatment in terms of how others react.  To see the person and not the diagnosis is absolutely key.  My essay for my 200 YTT was around yoga and navigating a cancer diagnosis and how I accessed a combination of the 8 limbs at different points from diagnosis to healing. I found you quite late into my recovery but so glad I did. The video giving a class to help lymphatic movement is so helpful and I will certainly incorporate these movements into my yoga classes as everyone benefits, not just those missing lymph nodes.” – Leah G.

This course will qualify for 3 CEs.

I wanted to expand on my thank you. Yoga U Online has been an absolute lifesaver for me. I moved from a yoga mecca to a yoga desert. Instead of having my choice of teachers and styles and special workshops, I now have to travel an hour to take a class. The excellent teachers and interesting topics at Yoga U Online have kept me moving ahead in my practice. I am grateful for all the wonderful yoga you bring to me. Thank you.
