Somatic Awareness

Judyth Weaver, PhD is a multifaceted teacher and counselor.  She holds a Ph.D. in Reichian Psychology and was co-founder of the Santa Barbara Graduate Institute and founding chair of its Ph.D. Program in Somatic Psychology. She taught at the California Institute of Integral Studies for 25 years as well as being founding faculty at Naropa Institute, creating its T’ai Chi Ch’uan program in 1974. She is certified in Reichian Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, massage, Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, and Pre- and Perinatal Therapy.  She began studying both T’ai Chi Ch’uan and Sensory Awareness in 1968, upon her return to the U.S. after living 3 years in Japan, half of that time in a Zen Buddhist Monastery, where she was the only woman allowed to practice with 30 monks.

She is a senior teacher of T’ai Chi Ch’uan, Sensory Awareness and Rosen Method and maintains a private practice in Seattle, Washington and on Cortes Island, B.C., Canada. She has taught in Russia, India, Mexico, Japan, Taiwan and throughout Europe.
