When thinking about stretching in yoga, many people think of static stretches that test our ability to go “deeper.”

While static stretches certainly have their use when it comes to increasing or retaining flexibility, there is a lot more we can do than static stretches to maximize the benefits of our yoga practice.

In this groundbreaking course, Dr. Joe Vella and yoga therapist Lynn Crimando will guide you through an integrative immersion in advanced stretching techniques that you can apply in your asanas practice to greatly enhance the benefits of yoga postures.

Adding effective and powerful mobility techniques to yoga asanas practice has many benefits. It can cultivate improved joint balance and range of motion, improve soft tissue resilience and extensibility, enhance flexibility, and increase functional movement and neuromuscular efficiency.

In this course, Dr. Joe and Lynn will show how a holistic program that weaves enriched stretching techniques combined with integrated mobility techniques can help you enjoy a more fluid and balanced movement both on and off the mat.

Learn about the following advanced stretching techniques and how to integrate them into your yoga asana practice:

  • Static and dynamic stretching,
  • Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, and
  • Neuromuscular re-education techniques to help retrain our nervous systems.

Mastering advanced stretching techniques can lead to an improved range of motion and increased tissue extensibility in all planes of motion.

It can also help weed out long-seated, stubborn tension patterns in the body that show up as chronic muscle imbalances.

Learning how to release chronic tension patterns and muscle imbalances becomes doubly important when we consider how a pain problem in one area of the body may originate at a point far away.

For example, muscle imbalances in the foot-ankle complex can create a kinetic chain of events that ends with instability and imbalance on the knee, hip, back, or even our shoulders and head. Over time, failure to address these imbalances can lead to limited mobility, joint dysfunction, and repetitive stress.

This course is a unique collaboration between expert physical therapist and bodyworker Dr. Joe Vella, PT, DPT, CFMT, BS-EX, and yoga therapist Lynn Crimando, MA, C-IAYT, CPT, NBHWC.

Using innovative techniques they developed to marry advanced stretching science with the ancient science of yoga, Dr. Joe and Lynn will show you how you can incorporate some of the most effective techniques into any yoga practice.

The result? Improved flexibility and functional movement throughout your lifetime.

What You Will Learn

  • The basics of flexibility/mobility training and how to incorporate it seamlessly into asana practice
  • The importance of neuromuscular reeducation in creating muscular balance and strength
  • How regular dynamic mobility practice contributes to healthy aging and helps prevent common misalignment problems.
  • Effective dynamic mobility techniques that yoga students and teachers alike can incorporate into their regular practices.
  • The importance of continued mobility work to decrease injury risk and improve body awareness in practice
  • The importance of identifying and self-correcting problematic and systemic asymmetries throughout the body
  • A yoga practice that focuses on how to incorporate dynamic stretching and mobility moves into poses to work the lower-kinetic chain (low back, hips, knees, ankles, feet, toes).

I wanted to expand on my thank you. Yoga U Online has been an absolute lifesaver for me. I moved from a yoga mecca to a yoga desert. Instead of having my choice of teachers and styles and special workshops, I now have to travel an hour to take a class. The excellent teachers and interesting topics at Yoga U Online have kept me moving ahead in my practice. I am grateful for all the wonderful yoga you bring to me. Thank you.
