Many students come to yoga with pronounced posture problems like forward head posture (or ‘text neck,’), which in turn cause alignment issues in numerous yoga postures.
In this course, Julie Gudmestad focuses on one of the origins of this problem: Chronically protracted scapula positioning caused by muscle imbalances, including tight pecs, and weakness in the trapezius and rhomboids.
The trapezius and scapulae play a key role for proper alignment in numerous yoga poses. Chronically protracted scapulae affect the health of the shoulder girdle in numerous ways and often locks us into a forward slumped posture that can be difficult to correct.
Julie looks at common problems associated with scapula positioning and the underlying muscle imbalances. You will learn how to assess these issues in your own body and that of your students. She will show the best yoga postures to counteract these issues in order to open and strengthen the shoulder girdle and lay the foundation for a safe practice.
