Heaven Is Real—A Neurosurgeon Speaks Up On His Near-Death Experiences
Have you ever experienced a life-changing event? A moment in time so pivotal that it marked a shift in your viewpoint, thought process, or experience?
Most people have had some kind of experience, which changed the course of their life forever. However, few life-transforming experiences are as dramatic as that of Dr. Eben Alexander’s, a neurosurgeon whose near-death experience was so profound, it changed his perception of spirituality and his belief in a God who loves us.
Dr. Alexander, along with many of his colleagues, had heard stories of people experiencing the afterlife or connecting with God during a malfunction in the brain, or a coma. As a man of science, he believed these to simply be chemical reactions in the brain, a fantasy world existing solely in the patient’s head. As a Christian, he believed in God, but was skeptical of any true world beyond our own.
One day, however, he contracted a very rare bacterial meningitis that mostly attacks newborns. E. coli bacteria had penetrated his cerebrospinal fluid and were eating his brain. His brain shut down, and he lay in a coma for seven days.
The coma was anything but absence of awareness, however. Upon waking, he didn’t know what to think about what he had experienced during those seven days while he was hovering between life and death. It took him months to process what had happened, but what he found was truly inspirational.
“That dimension. . . . the same one described by countless subjects of near-death experiences and other mystical states—is there. It exists, and what I saw and learned there has placed me quite literally in a new world: a world where we are much more than our brains and bodies, and where death is not the end of consciousness, but rather a chapter in a vast, and incalculably positive, journey.”
He spoke of secrets of the world with enlightened beings, a step so large for a neurosurgeon, he could hardly explain them to his colleagues. Here are some amazing words the beings shared with him:
“You are loved and cherished, dearly, forever.”
“You have nothing to fear.”
“There is nothing you can do wrong.”
“The messages flooded me with a vast and crazy sensation of relief. It was like being handed the rules to a game I’d been playing all my life without ever fully understanding it.”
Dr. Alexander had since dedicated himself to proving that modern science is missing half the equation, an eternal consciousness that connects all of us with an all-loving God. His new book, Proof of Heaven details his amazing experiences in full. To read more, see an excerpted chapter that recently appeared in Newsweek magazine here.
