Yoga Pose Video Tutorial for Pigeon Pose
Kapotasana
Pigeon Pose provides a deep stretch to your external hip rotators and buttocks (for the front bent leg), as well as a deep opening for the hip flexors of the back leg. There is a lot of room for injury and misalignment, particularly in flow classes, where you’re moving quickly through yoga postures. It’s worth the effort to first explore the component parts of the pose and to take time to work your body through the transitions before you attempt this asana in a flow yoga class. Pay special attention to protecting your SI joint, hips, and knees.
To ensure that your body is ready, try Reclining Pigeon (sometimes called Dead Pigeon or Eye of the Needle) before attempting the weight-bearing version of Pigeon.
