Rocky Mountain Institute of Yoga Therapy and Ayurveda

Located amidst the magnificent Colorado Rockies, the Rocky Mountain Institute of Yoga and Ayurveda was founded in 1999 by Sarasvati Buhrman, Patricia Hansen, and Richard Freeman. The center specializes in yoga teacher training, and yoga therapy training; its yoga therapy certification program offers a comprehensive, in-depth study course based on the traditional practices of Hatha and Ashtanga yoga, combined with the natural remedies of Ayurvedic medicine.

The yoga therapy training at Rocky Mountain Institute of Yoga Therapy and Ayurveda includes an extensive study of Ayurveda, the ancient system of Indian natural medicine. Students learn about the cause and development of disease from both the western and Ayurvedic viewpoints.  They also learn about Ayurvedic remedies and yoga therapy approaches for common ailments such as PMS, sinus infections, digestive disorders, and cardiovascular illness. In addition to emphasizing yoga as physical therapy for conditions such as muscular skeletal disorders, diabetes, asthma, the yoga therapy certification also covers yoga for stress relief, yoga for depression, and yoga for emotional health. The school also includes courses in Ayurvedic Pathology, Ayurvedic diet, along with courses in ethics, client management and various legal issues.

The yoga therapy training at Rocky Mountain Institute of Yoga Therapy and Ayurveda includes a nine month internship program for its second year yoga therapy students, enabling them to continue their yoga therapy teacher training in Colorado, North Carolina, New Mexico, or Florida under the expertise of an experienced practitioner.

To enroll in the yoga therapy certification track, students must be trained as a yoga teacher with a minimum of 200 hours of previous yoga teacher training. The yoga therapy certification programs include a 1000 hr. Ayurveda Yoga Therapy certification and a 250 hr.
