Is it time for yoga’s version of Fair Trade where yoga teachers are free from exploitative wages and practices?  Where your time is respected in the same way we honor the time and exertions of other people in other professions?

Join us for a mini-intensive with Donna Farhi – two 2-hour sessions in which we delve into the forces that have shaped our beliefs and behaviors around running our yoga teaching business and strategies to help you break free of common myths holding you back from growing to your full potential as a yoga teacher – both financially and in terms of your reach.

The current worth of the yoga industry globally is estimated at $84 billion, with yoga mats alone expected to generate $10.4 billion by 2025.  There is a staggering amount of money being made in Yoga Land, yet very little of that money seems to be falling into the pockets of yoga teachers.

How did we get here and how can yoga teachers reshape the landscape?

In this two-part 4-hour online course, Donna Farhi will explore the significance of our largely female profession, and how historical and present-day forces have shaped the global work market. Learn about the larger forces that impact yoga teachers and the beliefs and behaviors that undermine fair value exchange. And most importantly, Donna will cover strategies for meeting these common challenges.

More specifically, she’ll identify the powerful exploitative myths that are unique to the yoga industry.  By identifying the forces that may be unconsciously shaping your beliefs and driving your behaviors around money, you can begin to shift the dial and move towards a prosperous yoga career.

As the daughter of a first-generation immigrant, and someone who has supported herself since the age of seventeen, Donna has a strong sense of justice and, despite the odds, has forged a phenomenally successful yoga career.  She attributes this to learning early on how to own her value, negotiate binding contracts, and create fair value exchange where everyone wins.

Part One:

  • The historical and present-day forces that shape the global work market and the more specific myths that prevent yoga teachers from asking for fair remuneration.
  • Facts and figures that give us the lay of the land about the state of the yoga profession. It’s not a pretty picture!
  • The current deluge of short and often very cheap yoga teacher trainings which undermine professional credibility for all teachers and undercut fair market rates for teaching.
  • The significance of our profession being 90% (or more) female and how gender inequity, the pay gap, and subconscious bias continue to hamper all working women.
  • The most common myths that have justified underpaying women, such as “the labor of love” and how mythologies are specifically weaponized to manipulate yoga teachers to undercharge or to offer their services for free.
  • How these forces may be unconsciously shaping your beliefs and driving behaviors that undermine your ability to run a successful business.
  • Ten solid strategies to help you stabilize finances and to cultivate effective communication and savvy in your financial transactions with others.

Part Two:

  • We dig deeper into the ways that belief systems drive behaviors; apologetic communication styles, poor negotiating skills, and lack of clear contractual agreements leave teachers vulnerable to exploitation.
  • We then look at how to assess whether our internal values are aligned or in conflict with our actions.
  • Identifying the specific beliefs that drive us can liberate us to change our behaviors and actions.
  • The good news is that there is a clear path forward for yoga teachers to improve their circumstances and become more financially stable.  This begins with:

~  Increasing value through higher level training
~  Apprenticeship and mentorship both for teaching and for business
~  Positioning yourself in the market to work with your strengths, talents and interests.
~  Diversifying and specializing to discover your niche.
~  The importance of keeping a second job . . .building a financial safety net.
~  Knowing the market value of your contributions.
~  Learning to communicate with confidence about money and learning to negotiate to push back rather than being a push over!
~  Holding your ground when it comes to honoring financial agreements, yours and your students.
~  The importance of a contract and drafting one that is relative to your circumstance.
~  Manifesting opportunities and orchestrating elegant exits.
~  Sustainability and accessibility are not mutually exclusive; finding the balance between access and running a charity!

You will get the recordings of both sessions (MP3 -downloadable & MP4–streaming online), enabling you to go back and listen to the workshop as many times as you like.
  • Transcripts of Both Sessions: Ever wanted to refer to a certain part of a course? Even the best note takers miss a point every so often. With the transcripts of the sessions, you can go back and refer to particularly important passages or clarify sections you were in doubt about.

I wanted to expand on my thank you. Yoga U Online has been an absolute lifesaver for me. I moved from a yoga mecca to a yoga desert. Instead of having my choice of teachers and styles and special workshops, I now have to travel an hour to take a class. The excellent teachers and interesting topics at Yoga U Online have kept me moving ahead in my practice. I am grateful for all the wonderful yoga you bring to me. Thank you.
