EXPANDING ROLE OF FASCIA
Fascia - the body's connective tissue "scaffolding" - envelops, separates and supports internal structures, muscles & organs. Minimally, fascia facilitates "slide & glide" of these structures. Previously known and manipulated by bodyworkers, new medical research attributes many more whole-body benefits to the fascial matrix including "mediating lymphatic and fluid distribution". This new research expands the role of Fascia in optimal health and healing from disease ("Interstitium - the largest organ in the body").
FASCIAL RELEASE YOGA
When fascia becomes restricted, the result may be pain, muscle tension, diminished blood flow, weakness or loss of mobility. Yoga's "whole-body" physical postures, breath work and meditation offers a comprehensive method to experience aligned movements which stretch and stimulate myofascia and related physiologic systems. As a "Complementary Alternative Medicine" Yoga has been medically supported to have positive effects on: endocrinologic, vascular, respiratory, Autonomic Nervous Systems and the Vagus Nerve - encouraging the parasympathetic nervous system to the rest/relax state and improved gut/mood connection. Through guided instruction of a Fascial Yoga Release sequence combined with hands-on assists, clients receive a practice to help them restore optimal whole-body function, stimulate natural healing mechanisms and reduce stress. The result is a yoga practice, which is felt deeply, produces the best results for the specific client and helps them to establish a sustainable "self-therapy regimen" by understanding yoga modifications for their own needs.
ASSISTED YOGIC "SELF THERAPY"
Through education, instruction and hands-on guidance our goals are to use yoga sequences to restore vitality, emotional balance, digestive equilibrium, re-pattern whole-body structural function; to contribute management of symptoms of PTSD/trauma, stress/anxiety; and to cultivate mind-body awareness, flexibility, balance, strength & endurance through innovative yogic movement. Staff does not diagnose illness, but applies ancient yogic wisdom combined with modern documented pathways to create healthy body movement patterns in a yoga practice, which in turn have been proven by medical science to contribute to optimal conditions for healing and sustained quality of life.
PRIVATE YOGA INSTRUCTION - PERSONAL YOGA TRAINING
Our philosophy is based upon the lineage of Krishnamacharya - which advocates yoga practice matched to the student's needs. Combined with the latest physiology research/methods, a range of novel yoga postures are utilized to produce myofascial release, whole-body structural re-patterning, parasympathetic nervous and other system benefits. Personal Yoga Training provides clients with tailored, creative yoga sequences to cultivate vitality and equilibrium in body, mind and spirit.
STUDENTS WHO CAN BENEFIT
Seasoned practitioners, athletes, beginners, injured students or those facing aging issues will benefit from application of therapeutic yoga sequences and the cultivation of a "self-therapeutic" lifestyle through a consistent yoga practice.
WHY A PERSONAL YOGA TRAINER?
Many popular studios/styles present yoga as "exercise" or insist on adjustments which have roots in yoga intended for teenage boys in India. Modern kinesiology and physiologic understanding is a not part of most RYT yoga instructors education. Thus, rote "sun salutations" and repetitive style sequences may cause harm or minimally not provide the full physiologic benefits available with a yogic approach informed/modified by modern structural and myofascial kinesiology wisdom. As well, a group environment may not apply the right yoga to meet a student's particular needs. For students who wish to receive dedicated attention to their individual needs and goals, private yoga instruction is a constructive way to achieve results. Without the distraction of a yoga class/gym/spa, clients receive a personal assessment, the design of custom sequences, hands-on adjustments/assists.
